Atelier Indaba

The studio

An atelier is where ideas are crafted, not catalogued.

Indaba is a Ndebele and Zulu word for a gathering of minds to confer on something that matters. Atelier Indaba is the place that conversation becomes architecture. We take a small number of commissions, and we give each one the full weight of the studio.

The fire

Two minds at one table. Vision and reality, on your side.

The single most underserved moment in property is when the visionary and the realist sit at the same fire on day zero. Clients are usually offered one or the other. The architect who sells the picture and stays quiet on cost, or the operator who delivers the wrong thing competently.

Atelier Indaba is built to be both, at once, for you. One mind holds the design, the architecture, and the concept. The other holds what it takes to make it real, the deal, the constraints, the truth about cost and consent. Neither is allowed to win without the other.

That is the whole idea. The dream argued into reality before a brick is laid.

How we hold the work

We keep the thinking

Atelier Indaba retains copyright of the design solutions, and provides design resilience so the work can be delivered later by others without losing its intent.

We stay at the front

We claim the first three stages and refuse to be dragged downstream unless we choose to be. The value is here, and so is our discipline.

We tell the truth early

We are the party that tells you what a project really involves before you have paid for the truth. That is the trust the whole studio is built on.
